Chemical/dye-based solutions are a great way to manage submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV), floating weeds, emergent plants and algae in the short term, but repeated applications can have long term side effects that reduce the micro biotic diversity within the pond. For this reason, Exact Stormwater carefully selects the chemicals and the application rates we use to ensure they are ideally suited to the specific problems within your pond.
In addition to chemical treatment for symptoms, we recommend bacterial treatment to address the most common problems in ponds - overabundant nutrients. The bacteria breaks down the excess nitrogen in the water column, helping to mitigate algae blooms. Additionally, we utilize mechanical controls such as bubblers to add oxygen to the water, providing multiple benefits. While fish and other organisms love the extra oxygen, bubblers also keep the water temperatures consistent throughout the pond (which helps prevent algae growth), as well as aids in the breakdown of muck that sits on the bottom of the pond causing long-term problems (in addition to being gross).
